Nevada State Meet XC Recap 2021 - Ku Stevens Runs Fastest Time

Reno, Galena Claim 5A Titles As Nevada State Cross Country Meet Returns

Reno and Galena took advantage of the nearby venue and acclimation to elevation to win the NIAA Class 5A boys cross country title on Saturday with 41 points. The Huskies put two in the top four and four in the top 13 on the way to the championship. 

Foothill senior Nathan Carlin of Foothill won the individual title in 16:29. 

The state meet, returning for the first time since 2019, was held at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks: elevation 4,455 feet. 

Galena High, also of Reno, won the girls team title with 53 points and three of the top six finishers. Freshman Eleanor Raker won the race in 19:46. 

The 4A championship was held Oct. 29 at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. Bishop Gorman went 2-3-6 up front to kick-start the boys to a 4A team championship with 40 points. Danyom Yosief from Sierra Vista won the race in 16:30.2. 

Desert Oasis dominated the girls 4A competition, putting five scorers in the top 11 on the way to 33 points. Olivia Garcia from Cimarron-Memorial ran 20:31.5 for the individual victory.

Spring Creek swept the the Class 3A team titles. The boys won a sixth-runner tiebreaker to edge Moapa Valley after both teams scored 48, and the girls beat runner-up Moapa Valley 50-66. 

Cyrus Katich ran 17:37 to win the boys race and Jovi Kuskie from Lowry was the girls individual champion in 20:17.

In the Class 2A/1A boys race, Kutoven Stevens of Yerington was the class of the field and won by 59 seconds in 16:28. Stevens is undefeated in Nevada this fall and one of the top runners in the state and his time held up as the fastest of all four state meet classifications. DYESTAT FEATURE STORY

The North Tahoe boys won the team title with 38 points. Incline put five in the top 13 to win the girls team title with 21 points, led by Kira Noble's win (21:43).
